What is Not-so-SSO?
Not-so-SSO is a project that draws inspiration from a well-known page created by robchahin and the GitHub community called sso.tax. Rather than shaming companies, our approach aims to create a database of knowledge that includes them.
With that said, we do not agree with the SSO gatekeeping that companies impose on their products, and we hope that more companies will offer SSO as a basic level of security for all paid subscriptions.
What is the Goal of Not-so-SSO?
The goal of Not-so-SSO as mentioned above is not to shame those companies that are looking to overcharge for SSO but to educate those in IT, Operations, Finance, People Ops, etc.. and not just those that fall into a technology role. Having a robust searchable index of SSO-capable applications is our real task and to share them is our cause…Pokemon!
To be honest, as an IT professional who has worked with numerous companies. Many times, I have been tasked with bridging the gap between standard authentication and SAML (SSO). Having a resource that can be easily referred to during an upgrade is extremely helpful for me, and I hope it is for you as well!
SSO-Pay-Wall
If you are looking and thinking to yourself what is an SSO-Pay-Wall look no further, the list we are curating will have as many applications as we can find. This database will host information about software companies that support SSO but either want a little extra cash flow or an arm, leg, dog, and kitchen sink. Here you will find information about what the lowest paid subscription cost and what the entry-level subscription to SSO will cost ya. Again this database is not in any case used to shame a company but to allow an easy way to search for information when you do want to give that dog away.
SSO-Allies
These SSO heroes have found the solution. This recognition is reserved exclusively for you. Our SSO-Allies are companies that reject the idea of charging extra for SSO and include it in all paid subscription tiers by default. They recognize that SSO is not just some cool add-on but a security necessity. Our list of SSO-Allies deserves your business because they not only offer great products, but they also care about the way you access them. We applaud these companies for being ahead of their time and want to recognize their efforts!
Use Cases
Some use cases that can be especially helpful include:
- Finance - Figuring out that Saas budget. Understanding exactly what license you need to purchase for SSO.
- IT - Elevating your security posture. Sick and tired of all those password resets. Trying to build out that Okta IDP you just bought, (don’t be shy we all know you thought it would be the SSO end all, but it's not, welcome to the SSO-Pay-Wall my friend).
- The small business multi-hat-wearing folks (SBMHWF) - All the above should suit you :)
